TOWN BELT SECTIONS
UTILISATION' BY SPORTS BODIES. Two or three matters connected with the utilisation .by sports bodies of portions of the Town Belt were before the City Council last night. On the recommendation of the Reserve® Committee it was decided to refuse t-ho application of the Athletic Football Club for a lease of a portion of the Town Bc-lb between the top of Majoribanks and Elizabeth streets for the purpose of erecting a gymnasium. Tho committee also reported that they had received an application from the Kelburno Lawn Tennis Club for the leaso of a portion of the reserve adjoining the Botanical Gardens for the purpose of forming tennis courts. They would report 10 the next meeting of the council as to the suitability of tho site, the area available, and the rental to be charged. The rents received from lessees of Town Belt sections during’tho quarter ending June 30th amounted to £lO3 os.
