PRODUCE MARKETS
OPERATIONS IN BUTTER AND CHEESE.
It is stated in the latest issue of the "Trad© Review” that the stocks of butter in cool store at end of June amounted to 35,592 boxes, as against 40,176 boxes on June 30th, 1908. The supply has, however,. been quite sufficient for local requirements. Store butter will be drawn upon now for local demand, but production is better than at the same time last year and there are anticipations that the new supply will this season come in earlier than usual. The wholesale price is still 12-ld for pats and 12d for bulk, but there are some indications of weakness, and second quality is being sold a penny under these rates. Light shipments have gone forward for South Africa, but the inquiries for that market are coming. at lower quotations. Store butte is weaker in the Sydney market. A small lot of 350 boxes is going by the lonic for London to-day (Thursday). The "Review” also reports that several factories are still making cheese, and fair shipments are going forward by each fortnightly steamer. The "VVakanui, on the 13th, took 2788 cases, and the lonic to-dav will probably take about 1200 cases. Locally the demand is quiet at 6d per lb for medium sizes.
