CAB DRIVERS’ DISPUTE. The cab drivers’ dispute with their employers has been settled by the Conciliation Council, of which Mr P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, is chairman. An agreement has been arrived at on practically similar lines to those of the old award of the Arbitration Court, the only difference being a limitation ns to the number of Loots to be worked per month. Formerly the men had to work 280 hours in a month. This has now been divided to 140 hours in a fortnight. An effort is being mode through the medium of the agreement to stop the practice of sub-leasing cabs in an illicit manner. It was possible in the post by. this process for employers if they felt so inclined to evade the provisions of the award in respect to wages. It is also provided that a proper record of tho actual hours worked shall be kept by the employee. Employers are obliged to supply them with books for that purpose.
