HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL

Tho Hutt, County Council met .yestciday. Present—Councillors M. W. Welch (in"tho chair), J. ‘VVakeliam, W. Gilloway J. Edwards, J. Whits'll an and J. X/ynch. Tho inspector of works reported that much damage was being done on tho Wainui-o-mata road, on account of the heavy traffic to tho reservoir being built at Solomon's Knob. It was decided that action should be taken against tho offenders. The cht-irman was appointed to support tho council’s objections to Gear Island being severed from the county. It was decided to support the Mackenzie County Council’s proposal that the Government should allow local bodies fifths from rents of pastoral runs, for public works. . Tho council agreed to reciprocate with the Upper Hutt Town Board in regard to the pounding of stock. Settlors complained of tho state of Ohatsrworth road, and it was decided to attend to the matter at once. Slaughtering licenses were approved as follows:—J. Ciieetham, J. Ferguson, and Gadsby Bros. Residents of Rikiorangi applied for permission to erect a post office on a road reserve. The matter will bo considered and a reply furnished at a future date. It was decided to held a special meeting on July 22nd to consider esti- : mates and expenditure for the year 1909-10. • Accounts amounting to £IOOO were passed for payment. ‘
