The Norwegian barque Kylemorc, 1144 tons, has been chartered to load creosote at Hull for Bluff and probably Wellington, The Union Company's collier Koromiko is to sail from Westport at 10 o’clock tonight for Wellington. The Kini is to leave Westport to-morrow for Onehunga. • Word has been received that the schooner Clyde sailed from Greymouth on Wednesday with a load of timber for Wellington. The barque Ashmore is expected to get away either to-day or to-morrow for Melbourne Heads for orders, TO REFLOAT THE HAWEA. Another unsuccessful attempt was made yesterdav to refloat the stranded steamer Hawea at Greymouth. The services of the steamer Kittawa and the tugs Terawhiti and Westland were requisitioned. The Union Company is hopeful that another attempt to be made to-day will prove successful, KAIKOURA RATES REDUCED. Messrs Levin and Co. advise us of a substantial reduction of the cargo rates between Kaikoura and Wellington and Kaikoura and Lyttelton by their steamers Wakatu and Cygnet. Commencing to-day the rates on general cargo will be reduced from 12& 6d per ton to 10s, and on wool from 4s to 2s per bale, KAITUNA FROM NEWCASTLE. Cable advice has been received by the Union Company that the Kaituna sailed from Newcastle at 3 p.m. on Wednesday for Wellington with -a cargo of coal. Grey and Captain Charles McArthur will act as nautical assessors. houtcfs lifebuoy found. A lifebuoy belonging to the new schooner Houto, 99 tons. Captain Bell, which arrived at Wanganui on the 11th instant from Newcastle, was picked up on the beach at Rahotu, Taranaki, on

the day the vessel arrived at Wanganui. A description of the buoy has been forwarded by the Collector of Customs, New Plymouth, to the Marine Department. The name of the vessel is plainly painted on the buoy, which is in good condition. TAIERI FROM NEWCASTLE. steamer Taieri, coal-laden from Newcastle, made her first appearance at Wellington yesterday morning since she has substituted the Maoriland Company's flag for that of the Union Company. The vessel brought 1164 tons of coal and 11,000 ft of timber for Wellington, and has a quantity of coal for Napier. Captain F. Holm reports that light variable winds were experienced till Wednesday, when strong easterly winds and seas were met with. Captain Holm's officers are: Chief, Mr W. F. Clark; second, Mr A. H. Tibbits; third, Mr T. W. Spence; chief engineer, Mr A. E. McMaster; second, Mr William Young; third, Mr George Smith. The vessel is expected to get away for Napier to-morrow, and will probably proceed thence to Newcastle. MANGAPAPA PURCHASED. The purchase of the Northern Steamship Company's steamer Mangapapa by the Karamea Steamship Company has been completed. Captam Fletcher, late of the Ngunguru, is standing by the vessel, which is to be altered to adapt her to the Karamea-West Coast service.
