PALMER,STOX KiEWS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) PAHMEIISTOX, October 27. At the monthly meeting of the Palmerston High School of Goyornoi-s there wore present Messrs Walter Uutlnirford (chairman), J. L. Baniicont, U. Hirscli, 0. H. Bennett, W. Bark, W. H. Colliugtroocl, J. E. Yemen trector), and Bovs. C. O. Havx*r and I. dolly. Miss Hood Williams, who has received an appointment at Christchurch, scut in her resignation as teacher of typewriting at the Technical School, which was accepted with regret. The chairman said the plans of tho proposed -new technical school had been sent to tho Government and ah application made for a grant in aid. Mr Hogbon, Inspector-General of Schools, had visited tho Technical School and expressed satisfaction at the ptogicss mado and tho genera] management of tho school. In connection with tho annual prizes, £.i;j was voted for this purpose, and also £4 4o for dux medals.

Air Vernon reported that the sports gathering ■ held on Saturday last had proved most 'succcssfiil. He submitted plans for<‘tho boardinghouse \rhich had been'suggested in connection-with the High School to accommodate twenty hoarders.

, Air Vernon suggested that a scholarship should bo established, and the suggestion was adopted. The report received from the director of Hie Technical School showed, there were 360 names on the .roll, and the average for the year would bo about 420. The wool-classing division had proved a great success, the maximum number of pupils having been received from its inception. The recent elocution contest had resulted in £l9 haying been raised in aid of the building fund, and it had boon decided to make the competition an annual one.

Messrs Nathan and Co., of Wellington, havo made a donation of £250 to the funds of the High School. Tho donation carries a Government subsidy of £1 for £l. Tho following officers have been elected hy the Palmerston Tennis Club for tho ensuing year:—President, Air F. W. .Connell; vice-presidents, Messrs J. L. Barnicoat. Smith, W. X/. Fitzhorbert, and Dr Putnam; secretary, Mr J. T. Pickett: treasurer, Mr G. D. Heed; committee. Miss Randolph, Airs Pickett, Alessrs 0. A. Louglman, W. A. Pennell, H. 11. Cooper, J. AI. Collins; ladies’ committee, Mesdamos Bondall, Fitzhorbert, Harden, Pickett, and AGss Smith, with power to add. It was decided to erect a new pavilion at a cost of £2OO, for which debentures will be issued. It was also decided to recommend the incoming committee to sot aside ono court for croquet players.
