A claim for compensation for accident has been lodged with the Clerk of Awards on, behalf of George Edward Charlton, a labourer, living at Manley terrace, Wellington, tile respondent being Edward Collie, cabinetmaker, of XUddiford street. Claimant states that he was employed doing odd jobs about the resX'Ondent's premises, and on dim© 18th last he was working ia machine which is technically known as a ‘'devil," and is used for "teasing" kapok. Owing to the slippery condition of the floor, which was not provided with laths, he eiinned and fell. The index finger of his right hand was drawn into the cogs of the machine with tiie result that it had to be removed down to the second joint, and he wis totally incapacitated for ono mouth. Sixty pounds is claimed as compensation. Buckland, the seat of Sir William Throckmorton, is announced to be sold by auction,. Tho property extends to over 31)00 acres, and includes the entire village of Bucklaud. This is to be followed by the sale of “Farming Woods," an historical domain of 4304 acres near Oundie, in Northamptonshire. Lyveden. the. home of the Treshams, of Gunpowder Biot fame, is an interesting feature of the property..
