THE MISSING LOCH LOMOND
The Union Company’s recently purchased barque Lo&i Lomond will bo nine weeks out from Newcastle to Lyttelton on Wednesday next. It is feared that nothing more will bo heard of the missing ship. The names of the officers and men are:—J. Thompson, master; John Court, first officer; John Jathieson, second mate; J. McCoffott, carpenter; John Miller, K. Waddington, O. Briorley, J. Blanche, J. Jones, T, Guery, John McVicar. 15. Stenson, J. McKay,'M. D. Harrison, E. Roache, E. Bold, Norman Rawitt, seamen; H. Cooper,-cook; A. Young, cabin boy. Tho master and the mate shipped on tho vessel at Newcastle. The others joined at Melbourne, where the vessel was taken over by tTie Union Steam Ship Company at the time of her purchase. Bad luck seems to have befallen tho Loch fiiio of ships (saya an exchange) since they were sold by their owners. Recently the Gerznan-Australian Steamship Company purchased tho well-known clipper Loch Ness,, subject to inspection while she Icy in Melbourne The LocH Ness left in tow cf the Gcrman-Australian liner Itzehoo, and during a heavy south-west gale and boisterous seas, tho tow-line part, ed when .about ten miles from Capo Otway. Tho Itzehoo by until daybreak next morning, but., as tho weather had not sufficiently moderated to enable a tow-rope to be placed on the barque. Captain Bahr decided to continue the voyage without tho ship. I‘ortuhatcly the Loch Ness carried a full crew, including Captain Buchanan and officers. Immediately the Itzehoo left, the sailing ship hoisted her canvas and sot sail for .Port Adelaide. On arrival there she will be converted into a coal hulk.
