"The Merry Widow" is a gold mine to tho author. Since ita first American, production at Syracuse iu September of last year, Mr Henry W. Savage has paid in. royalties nearly .£23,000. When the piece has run its full year—it is now playing on the roof of the New Amsterdam Theatre, New York, tho amount of royallties will not be far short of £30,000, or an average of more than .£SOO a week, which is probably a new mark for sustained returns to authors from any dramatic work. Mr Savage’s payments, however, are only a email portion of tho authour'a income, as royaliiies have been pouring in. for over & year from England, and for almost two years from Germany, Holland, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Russia, and Austria-Hunary.
