NEW STEAMER SERVICE
ARRANGED BY QUEENSLAND PREMIER. LONDON, September 10. 1 Tho Premier of Queensland, Mr Kidston, has sailed on his return to Queensland. While in England ho completed an arrangement with tho British-India Steamship Company for a steamer service in the Torres Straits. The company receives a subsidy of £37,000, and provides a thirty-five, days’ service between London and Thursday Island. A steamer will run monthly, commencing in October, and will call at Cairns, Townsville, Port Aiwa, and any other port which offers 150 tons of cargo, returning via tho Clapo. Uniform freight rates will be charged from all Queensland ports. The steamers engaged in the service will bo of 5500 tons register.
