LACROSSE

(By “First Home.") Just as this time in the season players seem to bo a little lax. Tims the Pu&t two baturdays games have been lather uninteresting, .Nevertheless some new players have been out, and have suewn great promise. Now is tire time lor players to take the opportunity of making their game known, and every effort should he put forward by the present players to get new men and interest them in this magniiicent game. X am satisfied if players of other sports (■an be induced to take up a crosse and afternoon's practice they will say “Lacrosse will be my game for nest winter.

,^ e n writer is a strong supporter of lur Frond's idea to form two equal teams from each of the evicting clubs and finish the season with a short competition. it has many advantages. Jhe players will feel that they have something to play for. More men will be needed to make up tho teams. It will give players something to remember for next year. Tho most important point of all is that there is nothing that improves the game so much as good hard games between different teams. A player learns much better the combined jilay and the liner points of the game, such as knowing his place in the field and keeping to his man, when to pass, how to pass, and where to pass, chocking, both stick and body, getting loose, etc. All of these points must be observed in a match. ' I hope that every member will do his best to make a good finish for the season. I would suggest that Capitals play an A and B team, Mr Stacey bring his much-talked-of Hutt team together, and the remaining players of the Federal club form the fourth team. This scheme would be sure to create a good competition. I wish the mover success in his efforts. At a meeting of the association last week it was decided to hold a smoke concert on the 2fird inst. A strong committee, consisting of Messrs Chilman, Casey and Fama, has been formed. Every member should keep that night open. There is no reason why a team to run in the Wellington Harriers’ five-mile road race should not be formed from the association. I am sure we have men that would do well in such a race. This matter is worth looking into. Next week I hope to bo able to publish the proposed team.
