PRESS ASSOCIATION. STRATFORD, September 11. Mr N. J. Kinflr, Inilepeudont Liberal candidate for the Stratford scat, addressed a good meeting last night at Stratford. Ho was generally in accord with the present Government, but would vote according to the dictates of his conscience if elected. He advocated giving back-blocks settlors roads and pushing on the Stratford-Ongaruiie railway, Ho received a vote of thanks. THB AVON SHAT. CHRISTCHURCH, September 11. Mr John Jamieson, a member of the Bducatmn Board and the East Christchurch, School Committee, who has taken a keen interest in matters affecting the Avon electorate, will bo a candidate for Avon at the coming election. Our Christchurch correspondent telegraphs that Mr J. H. W. Urn. of Canterbury, will contest the Southern Maori seat at the general election.

Mr J. E. Fitzgerald, who seeks election. to the House of Representatives as .Liberal member for Wellington suburbs, addressed about two hundred and fifty electors at Johnsonville last evening. Mr Lason presided. The candidate spoke tor two tours, traversing ground largely covered previously. He got on to one new track, quoting various statistics, in reply to recent criticism, to illustrate the industrial development of New Zealand. Hr Fitzgerald wa.s given a vote of confidence, on the motion of Mr Murdoch, seconded by Mr Campbell. A committee numbering nearly forty ladies and gentlemen was formed to promote Mr I'itzgerald’s election.
