EGG-FARMING V. DAIRYING.

WAIRARAPA MAN PREFERS FOWLS TO COWS. The Carterton "Daily News” tells of a Ciareville fanner, Hr I). J. Lovelock, who is giving up dairying in favour of fowl farming. He is taking up eggproduction on businesslike lines, and intends growing his own grain. He considers there is as much money in poultry farming as in dairying, if conducted on right lines. Mr Lovelock has White Leghorns, Silver Wyandottes, and Black Leghorns, all of the utility t3 r pe. His white Leghorns are the progeny of the best Australian and New Zealand egg-laying at,rains, while his Wyandottes are of the famous Howell and Warren strains. Black Leghorns aro rather a novelty in this island, and if Mr Lovelock has a laying strain he should command good business in the sale of sittings. The plant on the Ciareville egg farm is thoroughly up-to-date. The buildings are tarred outside and white-washed within; there are thirty-four fowlhouses. The dropping board is movable, as are the roosts. Two large incubators are at work. The grit-mills, bone-crusher, etc., are driven by a small oil-engine.
