WEDNESDAY PLAYERS v. SATURDAY' JUNIORS. SOME TALL SCOEIivG. On the Athletic Park yesterday afternoon 3, Rugby match v.*as played between teams representing the Saturday rnaior and Wednesday players. Inc ground was in splendid order, being the first Wednesday since the Welling-ton-BritUU match on which the footballers were favoured with a good day. For the Saturday men Corson, Mclvoowen and Sullivan notched tries, Waugh converting one. Mr T. H. Jones was referee. CIVIL SERVICE MATCH. A team representing the combined Audit and Treasury Departments met tho Lands and Survey Department's representatives at Newtown Pork yesterday afternoon. A fast, strenuous game resulted in a win for the combined team by 14 points to 3. Tries, one of which was converted by Highot, were scored for the winners by Richardson, Hamilton. Capper and Cairns, For the losers a fine try was secured by 'Keenan, hut was not converted. Mnemorran played a sterling gams at Half-back for tho Survey team until he received a severe kick on tho head, when he retired to full-back. Anton, behind tho combined team's pack, played solidly throghouf, and tackled in first-rate style. Hamilton and Ring wore prominent among the forwards. Air Mcwart refereed efficiently. WELLINGTON UNION. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union, hold last night, was attended by Messrs E. O. Hales (in the chair), W. Perry, W, J. Hardliain, J. I’. O’Sullivan, F. Alpe, J. Sweeney, J. Murray, and \V. G. Talbot (secretary). It was decided to play the SelwynPetone fourth-class match at Petone on Saturday next. The Athletic Club was granted permission to play its annual match with tile Blenheim Club on September tilth. The match will be played as a curtainraiser to the Marlborough-Uuller match for the Soddon Shield. An application was received for permission to pI ay a match between the staffs, of the head offices of the Railway Department at Dunedin and Wellington, on the Athletic Park on September 19th, as a curtain-raiser to tho WellingtonOtago match.—lt was decided to point out that a curtain-raiser has' already been arranged for tills match, but to suggest September 12th as a date for the match, the ground being vacant on that day. Should September 19th be adhered to as tho date of the match, the game will have to be played on another ground. The Petone Borough Council had complained that the referee (Mr W. Roberts), in a recent match, had refused to stop his game when asked to do so by the caretaker of the Petone ground, who wished to clear the lines of spectators.—Mr Roberts attended the meeting, and. explained that ho did not knoiv it was the caretaker who had asked him to stop tho game, and that tho game could not have been stopped conveniently at that particular moment.—lt was resolved to forward Mr Roberts’ explanation to the Petone Council. OTAGO v. NORTH OTAGO. riIESS ASSOCIATION. OAMABU, September 2. The football match Otago v. North Otago was played to-clay in fine weather. All through the game Otago proved superior to the local men. In the first spell Otago scored 10 to North Otago’s 4, and in the second spell Otago added a further 17, while North Otago failed to score, the result being Otago 27, 'North Otago 1. North Otago played five substitutes, that - number of the selected team not being able to play. The football match Marlborough v. the Wellington 15 learn was played to-day under perfect conditions, and was iron by the former by 10 points to 8.
