Mr J. G. Gilberd, for many years superintendent of the Napier Volunteer Fire Brigade was entertained at a smoke concert at Napier last evening by the brigade, and was made a presentation. A Press Association message says the Mayor and others spoke eulogistically of the services rendered by Mr Gilberd, who is leaving on a trip to the Old Country. Mr J. W. Thom-pson, of tho" staff of the General Manager of New Zealand Bailways, was presented yesterday with a clock, as a mark of his colleagues' esteem and good wishes upon the occasion of his forthcoming marriage. The presentation was made by Mr T. Eonayne (General Manager), who wished Mr Thompson a long and happy married life. The Presbytery yesterday nassed a resolution of regret at the death of Mrs Milne, wife of the Eev. P. Milne, who has been for many years the minister of the church at the Island of Ngune, in the' New Hebrides. The resolution, which was moved by the Rev. J. Kennedy Elliott and seconded by the Eev. J. Paterson, also conveyed the sympathy of the Presbytery to Mr Milne and family.
