A LAND BOARD QUESTION.
INSTRUCTIONS OBJECTED TO. PBE69 ASSOCIATION. GISBORNE. April 13. At a meeting of tho Land Board to-day Mr Eustace Lan© submitted the following notice of motion:— That under clauses 43, 49, 201, and 209 of the Land Act, 1885, this Board is appointed to decide wheher or not small grazing areas leased under that Act aro suitable for close settlement, and that we cannot accept instructions, forwarded by tho Under-Sccrotary for Lands, as Cabinet instructions, seeing that such instructions tend to demoralise the tenants, belittle the land, and ‘dummy’ the Board, The Cabinet referred to bear out an intimation given by the Minister for Lands when on a visit to this district recently, that on the expiration of the leases of small grazing runs shortly falling in they would, if suitable, be subdivided for closer settlement.
