ANNOYED BY A CLOCK

SCOTSMAN’S PECULIAR ACTION. There was no small excitement in tho Boulevard de Magenta (says the Paris correspondent of tho "Daily Telegraph”) among *• number of shopkeepers when they heard the smashing of a big show window and the rattling af broken clocks and pieces of glass on tho pavement in front of the jewellery shop ot one of the neighbours. As was natural, a trig crowd at one® gathered. In tho midst of it all a Scotsman, from Glasgow, with flushed and angry face, was gestulaiting and saying in English that h© nad done it to haw© revenge on the clocks and on the jeweller. Tho shopkeeper naturally was not going to stand this, as he thought, entirely unprovoked attack, and soon had tho Scotsman fast between several policemen, who kept their hands on hi-n shoulders to prevdot a renewal of tho attack.

When tho Glasgow,man was given an opportunity of explaining himsoif at tho station, it. turned otto that his anger was directed against tho big clock over the jeweller's window. iJrery day as he passed ho took the trouble of setting his watch by tho clock, but, do what he liked he could never get his watch and tho ©lock to agree. One day he would sc* his timepiece fast and another day slow, and missed several appointments on account of it, and tho last tuno he passed, seeing that tho clock in which he had before trusted was again wrong, he picked up a brick and fired at it, reckless of what might happen. The result may have been partially unforeseen* but the jeweller complains tl at thousands of francs worth of watches.
