It was cabled a fow weolts ago that owing to the decision of Mr Justice CHements, -of British Columbia, to the effect that the ordor-in-council of Jauuory Bth* under which a number of Hindus were arrested for entering the country in contravention of the Alien Immigration Restriction Act; was technically illegal, a Bill was being pushed through the Dominion Legislature to admit only immigrants direct from the land of their hirth.
The immigration into Canada from the United States during January and February increased 61 per cent., bnt the immigration through ocean porta during the same period decreased 36 per cent.
