THE COROMANDEL STREET ' COTTAGES. WHAT THEY ARE LIKE. Those who are experiencing difficulty over high rents will have an opportunity shortly of participating in the benefits conferred under the Workmen’s Homes Act. The new hatch of houses—eight in number—which are being erected by the Government near Coromandel street, are rapidly nearing completion, and will soon be open r or competition. The houses are in Seddon terrace, just off Coromandel street. They have an attractive exterior and should elicit keen competition. They are of a modern type, and are all of different designs. Each house is fitted with bath and sinks, with hot and cold water service, oupboards, wardrobes, linen presses, etc. There are four two-story semi-de-tached five-roomed cottages, one onestory detached fivo-roomc-d place, and three pnenstory detached four-roomed houses, two of the latter being built with solid nine-feet concrete walls battened and lined. There are already four ■ workmen’s homes in the same locality, all occupied. The buildings have been erected in accordance with plans drawn by Mr Woburn Temple, architect to the Public Works Departmenj. - The conditions under which they will be open for competition will be announced in a few days.
