King Edward VII. has decided to preserve the skeleton of Persimmon at Sandringham, in memory of one of the best horses over bred. The skeleton will be sot up by Messrs Rowland Wtird, Limited, Piccadilly.

Longchamps (by imported Voyou) put up an attractive performance at Eoschill on February 28th. In the Camellia Staked, ono mile, he carried 7.12 and won easily in Imin 41isec. Longchamps i n engaged in the Doncaster Handicap with 7.0 and Sydney Cup with 6.7, Bright Steel, the Doncaster favourite, is not the only representative of defunct St Simon racing in Australia. At Rosehill, on March 28th, Rouveay {St. Simon —Society Lady) won the Paramatta mile, carrying 8.0 ‘in 1 min. 43sec. Rouveay is a four-ytar old brown horse, and is owned bv Messrs Clark and Robinson, the Anglo-Colonial sportsmen. Ho cost 1800 guineas as a yearling, and is hol-low-backed. Rouveay is in the Doncaster 11‘indicap and Svdney Cup and is at the bottom, weight (6.7) in each event. At the Coolgardie (W.A.) meeting on March 28th Golden Bell {San Francisco —Campania) won the Gunga Purse. Munjeet was purchUsed, not on account of Mr Apcar, but for Mr J. Galstaun, another prominent Indian owner. Waiter Burn has been given permission by the V.R.C. to "ride work" on tho track, and is once more attached to W. S. Hickonbotltam’s stable.

The racing officials at the Manawatu meeting included handicappers J. E. Henrys, G. Morse, J, 11. Pollock and 11. Coyle, and secretaries J. W. Stratton (Hawke’s Bay). E. Goodbchere (Feilding), E. J. Gothard (Woodville), J. S. Freeman (Dannovirke), F. Roe (Horowhenua), and J. B. Bairstow (Carterton). Ata-ahua will not fulfil his Auckland engagements, and consequently A. McConnon will be a free lance at Easter time. He will go to tho Feilding meeting and ride Capulet in his engagements there. J. Prosser leaves for Auckland this morning with Marguerite, Gold Crest, Taitoko, Diabolo and a two-year-old sister to Monsieur Beaucaire (Stepuiak— Belle Clair). W. Young and R. Hatch go north to ride tho horses in their engagements. The Ivaramea team for the C.J.C. Easter meeting will consist of Zimmerman, Martyrium, Kairoma, North Polo and Rock Ferry. They go South to-night in charge of Stewart Waddell. F. D. Jones will ride the Hon. J. D. Ormond’s horses at Eiccarton.

One day last week Messrs Judd and Bairs tow, of the Taratahi-Carterton Eacinv Club, visited the Eeikling course to inspect the stewards’ stand. A new stewards’ stand is to be erected at Clnreville, and different courses are being visited with a view to getting a suitable design. VV. Higgins, the well-known hurdle rider, carries his arm in a sling at present as a result of a fall while schooling a horse at Feilding recently. j Acceptances for the first day’s handicap events and entries for the Trial Plata, of 100 sovs, seven furlongs, and Maiden Scurry, of 100 sovs, five and a half furlongs, at the Feilding Jockey Club’s autnmn meeting, to he held on Easter Monday and Tuesday, close on Monday next at 8.30 n.m., with Mr Edmund Goodbehero (secretary). The Karamu team for the Auckland Easter meeting, consisting of Dawn, Diamond Star, Woodbey and North Head, went north yesterday. They are in charge of L. Gray, head lad at Karamu. L. Wilson will ride the hearers of the cerise jacket at Ellerslie.

TARANAKI NOTES.

Our New Plymouth correspondent writes;—At the S.M. Court on Tuesday a man called "John Wren" was proceeded against by the Taranaki Jockey Club for betting at the late meeting without a license. He was fined .£2O and costs, in default four weeks’ imprisonment, for betting on the first day, and >£lo and costs, in default fourteen days, for betting on the second day. C. Parker has, it is reported, been engaged by C. Matthews to train Curtis and an unbroken .youngster. It is likely that Parker will also train Wee Trinket. P. Johnston has sent Bushranger home to Hastings, and is now riding Paritutu here over the battens. Ho will also journey on to Auckland next week and ride the Castor gelding in his engagements there.

J. Driscoll took Bagatelle and Recreation to the Manawatu meeting, and Bob Barlow journeyed down to ride the latter and also Daisy Paul in the Championship Hack Plate. Silver Shell, Hydraulic and Timothy, trained by Thacker, are in good trim in view of Easter engagements. If the weights 'are suitable they will be given a run at the Patea meeting on Easter Monday. Uhlando, Golden Eagle and Starina journey north early next week. The trio are in good trim, and should give a good account of themselves in their respective races. WAIRAEAPA WEIGHTS.
