TO ENCOURAGE LOCAL V-' INDUSTRY.

There is a proposal afoot that in lion of the Auckland Winter Show, which has been abandoned this year, an exhibition of New Zealand made goods should be held. This exhibition would embrace all varieties of manufactures • representative of Now Zealand industries, and co-operative action is expected to be taken by the Wellington and Canterbury Industrial Associations. , A well attended meeting _of the Auckland Industrial Association was held this afternoon. The chairman' of the Auckland Provincial Industrial Association (Mr Arch: Clark) presided, and 'among those present were Messrs L. J. Bagnall (chairman of the Chamber of Commerce), and C. H. Poole, M. Mr Clark moved: —. That arrangements be proceeded with to give effect to the proposal to hold in Auckland an; exhibition : of the natural products . and manufactures of New Zealand. The motion was carried. Mr Buttle said ho thought it was necessary to impress on the people of New Zealand the importance of the local industries.' In his opinion they should be ticketed “made in New Zealand)” irrespective of being made by one, manufacturer or another. Furthermore, he realised that it would bo necessary -to engage a separate building for the display of goods which could not be put into shop windows. He moved: — , That the project take the form, of an exhibition in shop windows in the main thoroughfares.

Mr Cl. Fraser seconded the motion. Mr. C. H. Poole, 51. P., said be thought there was nothing so good • an exhibition similar to that proposed, and he believed that “the talking advertisement was the best.” It was estimated that 30,000 people would oome down into Auckland on the occasion of the visit ; of the American fleet. Further than that, they would have 12.000 men from the other side of the ocean. They would have the city dressed in its best ami he believed it w;oulcf be a great success if they held the exhibition when people were here from every part of the Dominion to see the American fleet. The motion wax carried.
