MORE IMMIGRANTS

THE TONGAKEEO’S BATCH,

The sinew and bone of the Dominion received an addition yesterday ■ when a hatch of 179 immigrants arrived from the Old Country, in the endeavour to carve out a name and wealth m this country. They did not come penniless, their combined wealth aggregating about JE2OOO. Some were evidently pretty sanguine about the prospects here, as they arrived with only a couple of pounds in their possession, but the majority of them possess, sums ranging from .£25. to iIOO, while one of them, who classes himself as a “farm labourer,” was -eturned as holding £7OO. Ho was modest as compared with some of his confreres, who were scheduled as "sheep farmers, mid were the owners of something like a arrivals appear to be a very desirable class.
