AGAINST MR HISLOP.
(To the Editor "N-Z. Times.") Sir, ing'such extensive financial power over so many and also the industries ox the city, should hold the Mayor's position? I think not. Mr Hislop to 60 me extent, to my thinking, is responsible for the resignation of Mr Ferguson from the Harbour Board. And now he wishes to continue his kindly feelings by the oity's*?'purcKase of the Gas Company's plant. 1 would like to know if fear of exposure was the cause of non-prosecution of city officials for “the embezzlements to large amount of city funds? And, sir, does it show a care for the citizens' interests when Mr Hislop allows section No. 8 of Hunter street reclaimed land to be re-leased within the last eighteen months to Messrs Bannatyne for a further term of years at .£66 per year, they receiving from their tenants a yearly rental of .£IOOO for this section? This is only one case in point.—l am, etc., CHAS. SIMMONDS. April oth.
