"Sceptic” (Palmerston N.).—As the article in question did not appear in our paper, we do not propose to allow a discussion upon it. Bishop Neligan has always been a little erratic. His terrible earnestness leads him astray. As you say (in far too many words) ,"it would be more patriotic of him not to use arguments defamatory to New Zealand as a lever to help him to raise the cash," but then you must remember he is not "one of us.” He does not realise that there is more of the true Christian spirit—of helpfulness, sympathy, charity, selfsacrifice, and kindness—in tho reviled "back-blocks" than sleek self-satisfied critics who fulminate from city pulpits have eye to sea or mind to know of. “Nicholas Nioolby."—No. wo don't want any more.
