EXTENSION TTEGED. (Special to "N.Z. Timm.”) .. OImiSTCHORCn. April 8. At jv meeting of tho Christchurch Firp Board a letter was road from tho Palmerston Fire Board asking for co-operation in thp matter of forming a deputation • to nak tha Oprornmont to extend tho powers of Flro Boards in tho direction of erapowering thorn to raise loans to ercotbnildInga and to purchase plant.
It was decided that tho Board should approve a request to tho Government to extend tho powers of Flro Boards in tho direction of permitting Such bodies to raise loans on tho security of their property and revenue to extend tho powers of coronors to enable them to undertake Inquiries outside the "cause and origin’' of Arcs, and to amend tho provisions for Ailing vacancies upon Fire Boards.
