During the further hearing of the. charge of assnu’t upon a girl pro 4 erred against Richard Dyason. chief , mate of the steamer Navun. tuo girl, recalled, said Sergeant Ramsay suggested immediately after the alleged assault that she should be examined by a medical man, but she declined because there were no marks to be seen on uer body to warrant such an examination.
Mr Kettle, S.M. (to witness):. You swore accused dragged you up the gangway, up two {lights of slope, and alorg the deck to his cabin, and then you say your wrist was not sore or marked from the result of euch treatment? , uitness: No; it was not. Mr Kettle remarked that it wne strange this fact was not elicited yesterday. Upon the conclusion oi the evidence Mr Kettle expressed tu© opinion that tho girl's account had been grossly exaggerated, but some of tu© evidence had shown that something uad taken place between the accused and. tho girl. Mr Sharpies decided to take the responsibility o{ not putting Dynson into the box, submitting that the girl’s account was so utterly incredible ns to leave -no reasonable warrant lor commit* tal;
His Worship ordered Mr Sharpie's docision to be entered ip the depositions, and promised to give his decision in me matter on Thursday morning.
