Major Head was relented nn behalf of tho Conneil of Defence bv tho War Office, and will arrive in New Zealand ohortly to take over his command. Major Head is nl".o to be Director of Artillery, a position at present hold by Captain G. 8. Richardson.
Major Hoad, bitterly commanding No. i. 4 Company at Slioeliuryncss, will bo given tho local rank of colonel wlidst in employed. Ho has served in the Doyal Artillery since 1886, when he jo,ned from Woolwich an a second liouteui'.ilt. He was promoted captain in 1890, and major in 1904. Ho taw i.etivo service in the Tirali Kxpedition. 1807-8, for which ho holds tho medal with two clasps. Major Hoad hoars tho reputation of being a very smart and capable officer. Major Hume, elileot son of Colonel Hurno, of Wellington, joined tho Civi l Service in 1883, and was transferred to (.lie New Zealand Artillery (Permanent Militia). Ho served with the Socom* Now Zealand Contingent in South Africa, subsequently joining tho Royal Artillery, and fighting under General Peln-Oiifoiv. Ho wont to Woolwich and Shoobnryness for a course of gunnery, returning to Now Zealand in 1903. Major Homo was appointed to command the New Zealand Permanent Force in February, 1005.
