Tho firo, tho cause of which is at present unknown, broke out shortly after 5 a.m., and tho brigade was promptly on the scene. The building was eoon ruined. It was owned by Messrs Oasey and Hayes, and was insured for £73. The most serious loss was that of Mr Bradley, as the contents of the building were very valuable. These included a motor-car valued at £3OO, Mr Bradley’s own property, and a motor’bus, owned by a Christchurch company, which had just boon placed - in the building on the previous day. These wore completely destroyed, as well as several bicycles which had been left by their owners for repairs. Mr Bradley’s car was insured for £2OO, and his plant and fittings for £9O. His loss, however, is a very heavy one, as the fittings are believed to have been worth more than double that amount.
