VICTIM OF SATURDAY NIGHT’S STAMPEDE. DEATH OF MISS JONES. 1 (From Our Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, April 6. ■ Miss Martha Jones, who was eeriorsly injured in the stampede of cab horses on Saturday evening last, died from her injuries this afternoon. The deceased was a member of tho firm of Misses Jones, grocers. Devon street. New Plymouth. and was breaking her return journey from Wellington to that town hv spending a few days with friends in Palmerston. A preliminary inquiry will bo held to-morrow The inquest proper will be postponed for some days to allow further inquiries to bo made.

FEILDING AND THE MAIL TRAIN. He suggested that a representative of auctioneers should be appointed to the deputation. It was decided that the deputation, should proceed to Wellington on Monday and interview the Minister of Railways on Tuesday, if that date were wait•.ibfe to him. It was decided to ask Mr .1. Stevens, M.P., to write to the Minister, supporting the.objects of the-depu-tation. Mr Atkinson will act as spokesman for the deputation. PRESENTATION.

Mr W. Dickson, license© of Hastie’s Hotel, Feilding, who has disposed of hie business, received a presentation this evening. About forty townsfolk were present, and many valedictory speeches were made. Mr J. A, Tuthill, on behalf of those present, mad© the presentation, which took the form of a g( Id locket.

AN INQUEST. An inquest was held at Fitzherbcrt West to-day before Captain Mowlem, District Coroner, on Joseph Ivan Graham, the victim of yesterday*® drowning accident. Mrs Graham, mother of the deceased, said that she had lived at the farm for about a‘ week, the deceased living with her. About 4 p.m. yesterday ho had gone out to the paddocks to get the cows in, and she never say him again alive. He had gone to tho well, she believed, with a view to drawing water for th© cattle. Th© jury returned a verdict of accidental death.
