CARTER THE ILLUSIONIST. Two packed houses greeted Charles Carter at the afternoon and evening performances. The prophecy of the Astral hand last Monday that it would rain during the week came true on Saturday evening. Miss Price again had the hou.se in wonder by her answers to questions. On Wednesday afternoon a matinee will be hold for ladies only, and Miss Price will devote more than the usual rime to answering questions. Carter will be playing every evening this week. THEATRE ROYAL, The holding capacity of the Theatre Royal was strained to the utmost on Saturday evening, when Fuller's Advanced Vaudeville Company presented an entirely new programme. Enthusiastic applause greeted tho Vantells, who showed some new feats in their startling triple horizontal bar performance. A first appearance was made by Miss Lillian Montgomery, a talented soprano, who gave choice renderings of “Gondola Dreams’' and “Roses." Miss Bright!© Smith, a vivacious serio, formerly in Mr Bland Holt's company, also made her first bow to a Wellington audience, and scored a decided success with a song entitled “Birthday Presents." Mr A. L. Cropp, who will appear for only a few nights more, splendidly rendered “The Yeoman’s Wedding 0 and "Father O’Flynn.” Mr Will James, the wellknown banjoist, provided the audience with a real treat. A welcome reappearance was made by Mr Denis Carney, the popular comedian, who sang several comic songs and performed a very clever stilt-dance. Bohctta and Williams scored a hit with an original comedy sketch, “The Housemaid’s Troubles," and welcome contribution to a very bright programme were also made by “The Franklins," comedy and acrobatic artists; the Banvards, knockabout and acrobatic comedians; Salmon and Chester, who provided an acceptable medley of Irish songs and sayings; and Miss Malvena Moore, a popular soubrette and dancer. The programme will bo repeated to-night. HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE.

There was not n vacant seat in His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday evening, when the Royal Picture Syndicate submitted a complete change of programme. The new pictures were well up to the high standard set in previous programmes. Although the syndicate has entered on its sixth week at liis Majesty’s Theatre the entertainment never falls below a high grade on account of constant importation of new films. The third Limerick competition closed on Saturday evening. Tho results will be announced at the Theatre to-night, when another competition will • begin. A well-attended matinee was held on Saturday afternoon, and every child in the audience was presented with a choice gift. CLARA BTjTT-ETJMFORD. The box plans for the two farewell concerts to be given in Wellington by Madame Clara Butt and Mr Kennerley Eumford on March sth will be opened at the Dresden to-morrow morning. It is anticipated that there will be a great rush for seats, as innumerable inquiries have been made already at the box office. New programmes will be presented, and altogether tho concerts promise to be even more interesting than those given previously. Concerts will bo given during this week at Palmerston North, Napier and Wanganui. Mr Ta.it expresses himself with the reception shown to the visiting stars.

Owing to tho prevalence of dense smote emanating from tho bush fires neat Day’s Bay, the proposed balloon ascent by Professor Barnes on Saturday was .abandoned. ■■ Mr Bon Fuller, who had been on a business trip to Dunedin, returned to Wellington yesterday afternoon by the Monowai.
