THE LONDON “ TIMES.” A .REPORT THAT IT IS TO BE SOLD. MR WALTER’S STATEMENT. By Telcgrapn—Press Association—Copyright (Received January 6, 10.38 p.m.) LONDON. January (i. Tho " Observer ” reports that negotiations aro in progress to sell " Tho Times ” to the proprietors of several magazines and newspapers. Mr A. F. Walter denies that the uirection of The Times ” will pass out of tho Walter family. The " Daily Chronicle ” states that Lord Northcliffe (formerly Mr Alfred Harmsworth), Sir George Newncs, and Mr 0. A. Pearson declare that the report that “The Times ” is to be sold to the proprietors of several magazines and newspapers does not refer to them. Mr Arthur Francis Walter is the chief proprietor of “The Times.” Ho has two eons and two daughters. One of the eons married Miss Watt, sister of Mr E. J. Watt, the well-known spo-t----ing squatter, and stepdaughter of Mr J. H. Coleman, of Napier. ‘The Times” was established in 1(88. The price of the daily is threepence. Th-.-e is a weekly edition (sold at twopenci), which was commenced in 1877.
