Mr Harry Buckland, runholder. of Waikoualti, aged *47 * years, dropped dead at Dunedin on Tuesday from heart failure. - The deceased took an active part in bringing the Farmers’ Union into fife in the Southern province, and at one time was president of the Otago and Southland executive. *

Mifes Bessie Gamble, daughter of Mr J. J. Gamble, formerly overseer of the Government Printing Offices, was married on Monday to Mr James McGurk, of Lower Hntt, at the Church of the Sacrtd Heart, Wellington. The Very Rev. Lather Molonev, S.M., conducted the ceremony. The bride was given away by her father. Mr David Gamble was best man. Mr T. W. Leslie, custodian of the Town Hall, received a handsome token of appreciation last night from the doorkeepers, ticket-takers, and other members of the house staff, in recognition of many kindnesses received through his instrumentality during the performance of their duties. The gift took the form of a gold signet ring, suitably enscrlbed.

The bi-annual examination under the Midwives Registration Act, 1904, was held on December 11th and 12th, at the St. Helens Hospitals, Wellington, Auckland, Dunedin and Christchurch. Manuel, Breadalbane; P. S. Tapp, Newcastle; J. H. Rose, Taralga; J. 0. Cosgrove, Pyrmont; U r . McGrath, Penrith; O. Smith, McPhail; R. \\. Elston, Newloun; J. B, O’Neill, Penrith; T. Huilt, Stan more; T. Dickgon, Burren Junction; P. Shepherd; and L. Deer (manager). The latter is representing the Sydney “Daily Telegraph"' on the tour. The visitors, who will only be able to travel the North Island, proceed from Wellington up the Wanganui River and thence to Auckland.
