AN OUTSIDER
A fluffy rod rose in her fluffy red < hair, A mischievous mouth, and a inischievous
pair . , Of eyes that are teasing and coaxing, and glint With some of defiance, and some of a
hint . ~ . That if the lips curving wore suddenly
A given kiss couldn't, and wouldn't ho missed; , _ A hand to her hat just because nf the
breeze. And daisies and grasses and blooms to
her knees, - , And golden rod crowding close to her to
share The light of hor eyes,, the ’ight cf her hair.
A rose on her‘bosom to match the red one In her hair, where she e standing out bold in the sun; And a gown Just as filmy, and white, and as thin, Ab the miet of the morning the breezes bring in From the wide fields and wide prairies, whoso wonderful blooms Send the cities the faintest sweet breath of perfumes; Like a challenge to come where the waving blooms be, Like a coaxing to come for a .walk by the sea; And her eyes and her pose and her laugh and her hair Seem to coax me, forbid me, laugh at me, and dare!
And the grasses her feet trample on. and decrees Eiso again, as her step was but just a caress; And the winds go to meet her, and brush her, and tease. And send the grass billows to break ■"gainst her knees; At the glint of her eye and the lure of her mouth The north wind on passing her turns and blows south. To once more blow by her and brush at her hair. And leave a cool kies on her round cheek and fair; And the birds mock her laughter, and cheer her and call. And—What? Me?
