REDUCTION OF LICENSES

NEW SOOTH WALES DECISION.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright SYDNEY, December 3.

In connection with the points raised, the president of the Local Option Court has decided that as a “Gazette” notice was published notifying that reduction had been carried in certain electorates, reduction has not been nullified.

On Friday counsel for a leading brewery firm raised the point that the reduction vote had not been carried according ip the wording of the Act, and that if carried it had not been gazetted as tbo Act required. Another point was that although the Act provided that in the event of -no-license not being carried, tho votes cast for nolicense should be added to those in favour of reduction, it failed to make clear or state in any way what should be done when this addition was made. Parliament micht have intended that the total for reduction amd no-license should be counted against the total for continuance, but Ahe intention was not expressed in the A£t.
