CHRONOMETER-RATING NOTICE. The time-ball may be used to-day for rate fng chronometers. The ball will drop at noon exactly of New Zealand Mcau Time, at which hour a chronometer ect to Green* wicb Mean Time should show 12h. 30m. Any difference will be tho error of 'th< chronometer, fast or slow on Greenwich Mean Timo. ■ • True time will also be given to-day by hourly galvanometer signals from the Ob* servatory to tho Museum and the Public Telegraph Office. ’ the guidance of shipmasters, a red and whit© pennant is displayed over the time-ball tower on those days on which the ball may bo used for cloee-rating pur* poses.
