A QUAINT ANNIVERSARY.
October Ist is the date of a curious observance connected with one of the City of London companies, which has gradually been much modified and is now practically fallen into desuetude. On this day the “beadles and servants" of the Worshipful Company, of Salters are required to attend Divine service 'at the Church of St. Magnus, London Bridge, the steeple of which was Wren’s first design for "Tom Tower” at Christ I Church, Oxford. This is in accordance j with the will of Sir John Salter, a great benefactor of the Salters’ Company, who died .about 1695, and was buried at St. Magnus. He ordered that the beadles and servants of the Csn> /p.my should go to the church at the beginning of October, "throe times each person," and Bur, "How do you do, brother Balter f I hope you are w«U?“
