DUPPA STREET PARK

The important work of forming a recreation ground at Duppa street, alongside the tramway line, is proceeding apace, and the twelve acres of excellent land being used by the City Council for that purpose will form one of the finest playgrounds in tho vicinity of the city. The creek which runs across this ground, and which, by the way. is tho “'bet© noir" of Island Bay residents, running as it does out of this park alongside the tramline to the Bay, has (in the grounds) been, confined in a concrete channel, four feet wide and five feet deep. The Council is taking advantage of tho natural features of the ground to make thif. place attractive. At present there are twenty-five men working. The gear used in the Sydney street park is being gradually transferred to the .Duppa stieet park, and it is noticeable that it ie all in an excellent state of, repair and newly painted. One part of this area is to be used for local purposes, and the other part is being eloped off. There is ft splendid top-soil on most of the ground, and it is friable enough to be easily dug with the ordinary long-handled shovel.
