Reprint from Melbourne "Age/' 27th February, 1907. AXTSmALTAN IRON. ' IMPORTANT FINANCIAL SCHEME. An interesting new development is about to take place in connection with th© financing of the Australian iron ini dustry. It is announced that a powerful new company is being registered to , erect large works for manufacturing iron and steel in the Commonwealth. Colonel Stanley, A.M.1.C.5., consulting engineer to the Queensland Government, I and Australian representative of the world-renowned firm of Armstrong, Whitworth. and Go., Limited; Mr F. H. Molesworth (metallurgist), accompanied by Mr J. Earl© Hermann, organising manager of the New Direct Process, Iron, Steel, and Metals Corporation, Limited (who have purchased the Commonwealth and New Zealand rights of the Moore-Hes-keth process for making iron or steel in one operation) are now in Melbourne. Those gentlemen are making exhaustive tests at the Moore-Heeketh works in South Mlbourne. Among th© party, too, is Mr Noakes, managing director of the Clyde Engineering Works, Sydney, which employs 900 men, and recently secured the contract for making 60 locomotives for the New South Wales Government, who is also making a visit of inspection. The capital of the new company is .£400,000, to be increased if necessary, and the site of the works is 104 miles from Sydney, and contains unlimited quantities or iron, coal, limestone, manganese, etc. The board of the new company is a very strong one. Mr J. Earle Hermann had an interview with Mr Alfred Deakln, the Prime Minister, on the above subject yesterday. Messrs Wilson, Rattray and Danby, the incorporate accountants, have been appointed Melbourne representatives of the new company. The Minister of Defence is greatly interested in the Moore-Heskett steel process in its relation to the naval construction programme of the Government, and is making private inquiries in that regard.—Advt.
