RONA BAY WHARF.

EEGULATING FEEET TRAFFIC. The Harbour. Board got rather warm and mixed up yesterday over a letter from the Harbour Ferries Company with regard to the control of traffic on the Eona Bay wharf. The company asked ■ that the wharfinger at Eona Bay be authorised to exclude all but passengers from the wharf on Sunday evenings and other occasions when there was much traffic. It also askpd the permission of the Board to use the gates at the shore end of the wharf for the collection of tickets. It seems that' the company has been in the habit of collecting tickets at the gates on occasions of heavy traffic: in fact the gates were erected for that purpose. Not long ago, however, a resident of the Bay disputed the right of the man at the gate to collect hie ticket, and travelled across to the city without giving his ticket. The' crowding of the wharf by persons who do not intend to travel by the steamers is stated to be a cause of considerable Hanger. When the letter was read, Mr Wilford protested against the ratepayers being Srevented from seeing their friends ofi. ie did not believe the inconvenience was go great os it was made out to be. Mr Shirtcliffo moved that the secretary report upon the necessity or otherwise of regulating traffic on special occasions. : Ecplying to a question, the secretary said it was not so necessary to prevent people going on the ferry wharf at the city because it was a great deal larger. There was some heated discussion.. For want of a motion, the chairman was going on to the. next business, when Mr Wilford moved that the letter be received. This was not seconded,- end eventually it was decided to authorise the secretary to give such instructions as he might think necessary to cope with the difficulty. .
