THE TEA DUTY.

(To the Editor "N.Z. Times/') Sir, —In your issue of to-day's “New Zealand Times," under the heading of The Tariff, we notice that, in discussing the dutv on packet teas, Mr J. G. W. Aitken is reported as making an assertion which we consider both sweeping and vicious. As blenders of tea of twentyseven years' standing, who, by conscientiously selling the best quality and value, have built up a trade for pure tea, we give an absolute denial to Air Aitken's assertion. We further challenge him that if he can prove his statement correct as regards our teas we will forfeit .£IOO to charities, provided he will forfeit a like amount when he finds himself wrong. Air Aitken, being an importer of tea, naturally feels the duty on packet teas very much, as he will now have to spend some money in getting his tea packed in Now Zealand instead of by niggers at 13s per month.
