GARRISON OFFICERS' CLUB.

There was a record attendance of tha officers of the garrison lost evening at the lecture-room, Hackle street, whan Lieutenant Hutchcn gave a paper on the subjects of " Operations in the Field," and, as a sequel, Staff Ruses. Colonel Robin, C. 8., gave an interesting 1 address illustrating the practical application of the subjects so dealt with. The papers or lectures form practhv ally a preparation or instructional course, lading up to the approaching "staff ride.". This moans a progression of skeleton movements, wherein the officers of all the various arms are on a given day or days allotted the position* over a tract of country which, in event of invasion by an enemy, these officers would be called upon to defend. This method of instruction is a most effective way of putting to the test each officer's ability to deal with the actual work which would fall to 15s lot in actual defence.
