SALVATION ARMY ACTIVITYPEE CHASE OF AN ISLAND. Brigadier Albuston has received advice from Commissioner MoKie, commanding in Australasia, that he has decided to purchase Pakatoa, or Bells Island, near Auckland, for the purpose of establishing an inebriates' 1 retreat. Pakatoa, which is near Waiheke, has an area of 20 acres. It has been largely used as a summer resort, .and possesses an accommodation house of twenty-five rooms and other buildings, an electric lighting plant, and two motor launches. Mr James Bell, the proprietor, is selling the whole property to the Salvation Army. There are at present no inebriates' homes in the North Island, and the Array hopes to be able to deal at Pakatoa with all the cases in this Island which the Government hand© over to it. The home will be registered under the Habitual Drunkards Act.
