An important meeting of settlers in the districts of Nuhaka, Morere and Mahia was held last Saturday forenoon to discuss the question of raising a loan, which may total 48000, for the purpose of metalling the Waikokonu and Valley roads. It is thought the money may bo obtained ht Si per cent., in which case the total rate charge on the combined districts for forty-two years would be 4280. No Interest would be payable until 1909, and at the end of forty-two years the debt would be extinguished. It is proposed to obtain the signatures of three-fourths of the ratepayers to the petition, so as to obviate the need of a poll. This is a forward policy which should meet wifh hearty support, seeing that it makes for the good, not only of the district concerned, but of the whole of the county.
