NEW ZEALAND KENNEL CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Kennel Club was held yesterday afternoon in the Chamber of Commerce. Mr Paul Hunter, president (Hawke b Bay) occupied the chair. The following delegates were present: —Messrs J. holer (Wanganui Agricultural Association), C. Rides (Canterbury Kennel Club), W. C. Leveioedge (ditto). R. U. Shephard (Auckland Kennel Club), J. Jamieson (Hawke's Bay A. and P. Society) W A. Smith (Hawke's Bay Kenncl and-Poultry Club). EL Bernascom (Wellington Kennel Club), W. F. Durward (Manawatu Kennel Club), G. T. D Watson (ditto), W. Janson (Wellington Kennel Club), and Henry Dovey (ditto), secretary. ... Apologies were received from Messrs W. Ryan (Auckland Kennel Club) and S. H, Graves (Canterbury Kennel Club), both members of the Executive Committee, who wore unavoidably absent. BALAN * The balance-sheet showed receipts amounting to .£BO 3s 4d, and expenditui-o 4e 6d, leaving a credit balance of JE33 las lOd. On the motion of Mr Durvr&rd the balance-sheet -was adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. On the motion of Mr Shephard, seconded by Mr Durward, Mr Paul Hunter ■was unanimously re-elected president. The president thanked the delegates for having’ re-elected him to the position. Ho had don© all he could in tli© past in the interests of the club and to try and keep the thing pure. He had always been ready to come to Wellington to attend meetings of the Executive Committee when required. The committee had endeavoured to do its work as well as it could. The smaller clubs had all been satisfied, and there had not been any friction with anybody. It had been a pleasant job to try and carry out the work. He hoped that the coming year would be as good, and that they would get on as well as in the past year. The Executive Committee was unanimously re-elected as follows, on the motion of Mr Shephard, seconded by Mr Jamieson:—Messrs W. Ryan (Auckland), S. H. Graves 1 (South Island), W. F. DurTard (Manawatu), and W. Janeon (Wellington). A proposition to amalgamate the officers of secretary and treasurer—moved ‘•v Mr Shephard, and seconded by Mr *''inicson—was defeated by six votes to /iree, Messrs Dovey and Janson were rejected secretary and treasurer respectively. The usual honorarium was voted tj each case. Mr Charles J. Salter, F.N.Z.A.A., was re-elected auditor. ALTERATIONS IN RULES. The Hawke's Bay Kennel Club recommended that rule 33 be deleted. The rule provided, "In no case will any challenge prize be granted to any show which gives a first prize (in the challenge competitions) or less than £1” The president expressed himself in favour of the alteration. The Hawke's Bay Club had considered the thing, and a number of other clubs had asked them to move in the matter. After some discussion the rule was deleted by a majority. The Hawke's Bay Kennel and Poultry Ghxb (Mr Smith) also proposed, "That the last sentence of rule 21 (which reads 'and that no dogs under twelve months be eligible for competition') be deleted." Hr Shephard moved an amendment that from the words "four challenges" to the end of the rule be deleted, and the following words substituted, "One challenge class for both sexes for each breed of dog shall be allotted to the chibs holding championship shows in the South Island, and two challenge classes for both sexes for each breed of dog shall be allotted to the clubs holding -championship shows in the North Island m each year; but no club shall be entitled to have challenge classes for the pjimfl breeds in any two consecutive years, pn A that no dogs under twelve months be eligible for competition." After some discussion the amendment proposed by Auckland was defeated, and the alteration moved by Hawke's Bay carried. Mr Smith moved, ."That the following paragraph be added to of Class/ 'the following definitions must be adopted by all societies holding shows under Kennel Club Regulations,'" The alteration was approved of. The following alterations in the rules wore also received from Hawke's Bay | and Poultry Club: —"Team ] shall consist of three or five dogs : (as the committee shall decide, and state ; 121 their schedule) of on© breed of each or either sex, the property of one exi hlbitor, each of which must have com- ; peted in at least. one other class at the show."—Carried. "Brace classes, for two dogs of one breed of either sex, the property of one exhibitor, each of which must have competed in at least one other class at the An amendment moved by Mr Shephard that the rale should read, "each or either sex," was accepted by the Hawke's Bay delegate, and the rule in that form adopted. It was agreed that the above alterations should come into force on and after January Ist, 1908. • Mr Janson moved, "That it be a recommendation from the New Zealand Kennel Club that the entries of financial members of affiliated clubs or societies be accepted at members' rates, providing that such entries be endorsed by the secretary of the club of the member making such entry, such member residing outside a radius of forty miles firpnn the club holding the show."— 1 Carried. A vote of thanks to the president was moved by Mr Shephard, and carried unanimously.
