PROPERTY SALES

HOROPITO AND WELLINGTON CITY LANDS.

The auction rooms of Messrs Macdonald, Wilson and Co. were crowded yesterday afternoon with a highly interested audience, who were eager to invest in the town of Horopito, situated halfway between the cities of Wellington and Auckland, on the Main North Trunk railway line, and expected to be the great central depot for goods and passenger traffic on the railway. Tho first lands offered were what had’ been unclaimed lands, situated in the city of Wellington, and recently acquired by the Government under a special Act of Parliament. The first section submitted was a valuable block in Upper Cuba street, near the National Bank, having a frontage of 24ft sin to Cuba street and Crawford’s lane, at the rear, by a depth of 121 ft, on which one small dwellinghouse is erected. The upset price of the property was £1650, representing £67 per foot, but bid after bid gradually brought it up to £llO per foot, at which price it was sold, representing a sum of £2685, an advance of £1035 over and above the upset price placed upon it by the Government Valuer, The three sections in Crawford and Wallace streets were then submitted. Lot 6, with a frontage of 44ft Sin to Crawford street by a depth of 133 ft 4in, at the upset price of £442 upon it, was secured at this price by Mrs H. E. Underwood. Lots 7 and 8, fronting Wallace street, were submitted at the upset price of £356 each, but failed to secure purchasers at that figure. The balance of the town of Horopito was then submitted for sale. It will be remembered that the first sale of this town took place in Auckland on the 24th July, the Hon. Mr Macdonald making a visit to Auckland in order to conduct the sale in the Northern capital, which sale was a distinct success. - The balance of the town and certain new subdivisions were offered yesterday, when the whole of the sections, numbering, in all, sixty-two, were sold for a total sum of £2272, At the conclusion of the sale the Hon. Mr Macdonald congratulated tho audience on the fact that every section, in all 114, in the town of Horopito had been sold, the total sale of the township amounting to £4820. The following is the schedule ot the various sections : HOROPITO TOWNSHIP. Block I.
