I During 1 last week a conference between representatives of the Australian Shipowners’ Federation and the Federated Seamen’s Union of Australasia was held at Melbourne, at which an agreement, which has been; in operation sine© the beginning of this year, was under revision. The most important matter brought forward was the payment of overtime to able-bodied seamen, who were paid £7 per month under the present conditions. It is provided that when a vessel is safely moored the hours for sailors shall bo any eight hours from 7 a~iu. to 5 p.m., and that overtime must be worked if ‘ required at the rate of Is per hour for ablebodied seamen, ana 6d per hour for boys.
