I During 1 last week a conference between representatives of the Australian Shipowners’ Federation and the Federated Seamen’s Union of Australasia was held at Melbourne, at which an agreement, which has been; in operation sine© the beginning of this year, was under revision. The most important matter brought forward was the payment of overtime to able-bodied seamen, who were paid £7 per month under the present conditions. It is provided that when a vessel is safely moored the hours for sailors shall bo any eight hours from 7 a~iu. to 5 p.m., and that overtime must be worked if ‘ required at the rate of Is per hour for ablebodied seamen, ana 6d per hour for boys. The conference has agreed that Is 3d shall 'be paid overtime to ablebodied men, and a slight increase has been allowed to boys. A LESSON IN MYTHOLOGY. Ambrosia was the drink of the Goddesses of old.
