DOG SHOW

WELLINGTON' KENNEL CLUB. Tho twenty-first annual show of the Wellington Kennel Club was opened yesterday at the DrUlshed, and promises to bo oho of th(s mo»t successful yet held by tho club. The entries this year- constitute a. record, being some fifty in exc<sss of the previous Lest total. There was a largo attendance throughout tho day. Ills Excellency tho Governor and party wore welcomed by Ur A. \S - Izard, president of tfie club, and were subsequently entertained at afternoon U-a Owing to the Wimmera only reaching port about noon, Mr C. Court Rico, of Sydney, was unable to commence judguntil the afternoon, and when ho was obliged to cease shortly after 5 p-in., in consequence of failing light, only about half the catalogue had boon completed. The dogs judged have come in lor mixed criticism by Mr Rice. Greyhounds are a good class; pointers are good, but the prevailing fault is weak loins. The adult winners in , English sellers are very nice, but the fact that Irish setters liave not made any progret** since last year is shown by two old dogs winning. Gordon setters are only moderate, while collies show a falling off. Retrievers are a really excellent lot, and tho bulldogs are capital, Mr Hioe having great difficulty in separating the pappie* and older dogs. Judging will bo resumed at 9 a.m. to-day.
