ARBITRATION COURT

PHESS ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN. September 10. The Arbitration Court this morning granted the Taieri Poninsula Company and tho Christchurch Meat Company exemption from the operations of the engine drivers’ award, so far as it applies to Dunedin engine drivers. Tho afternoon sitting was occupied in hearing charges of breaches ' of awards. William Wood was charged with a breach of the preference clause of the bakers’ award. It was only sought that a breach should bo recorded, and it was recorded accordingly. Allan Johnston was fined £5 and costs for a breach of the carters’ award. Hugh Bruoe, “of the firm of .Menziea and Bruce, now Bruce and Duckworth, was charged with a breach of the piastryoooks’ award. Respondent had taken upon himself the duties of second hand in his shop, while, it was alleged, ho had a man doing a second hand’s work and not receiving tho award wages. 'The 'Court did not deom respondent as competent to do a second hand’s work, and fined him ?3 and costs. Hammand and Oursey were brought before the Court for a breach of the general labourers’ award. The case was dismissed, tho Court not regarding the work done as being connected withcortain building operations, but preliminary thereto- Scott Bros, were charged with failing to pay proper wages under the carpenters’ award. , Am employee, Charles Spurher, was also charged in ’onnoction with tho same matter. The r Vurt held that the work was not properly carpenters’ work, and dismissed the case.
