(From Our Correspondent.) ( PALMERSTON, July 23. The Conciliation Board will sit m Palmerston on Wednesday morning, August 21st, in connection with the bakers’, industrial dispute. A special meeting of the Palmerston North Bowling Club passed the following resolution—'‘That in tho opinion of this dub tho time has now arrived when there should be one bowling association for New Zealand, and that a conference should bo held at an early date between representatives of th© North Island and Now Zealand bowling associations to con* sidor (I) the forming of one association, (2) the establishment of rules for governing play, (3) the question of reducing prir.e moneys, (I) methods of conducting annual tournaments, (5) appointing of joint secretaries for the North and South, (6) holding the annual tournament alternately in the North and South Islands. IMPROVEMENT LOANS. PROPOSED NEW WORKS. A fair number of ratepayers were pro sen! in tho Municipal Hall this evening to hoar an explanation of the Borough Council's loan proposals by the Mayor, Mr R. Essex. Tho first proposal submitted was ono to borrow .£10,500 for tho following undertakings ; —Purchase of the building now used for municipal offices (JG2SSO)* alterations to public reading-room and library (L 1550), street improvement, including <£3ooo for loaning to ratepayers to assist them in connecting with sewers (.£4330),' additional street lamps (j;j00), cycle tracks (.£100), river bank protection at the Esplanade where considerable erosion, is taking place (JEI850), Th© second proposal was to borrow .£2550 for protecting th© river bank at Hokowhitu at a point where the Manawatu threatens to cut through, and in eo doing sweep away a considerable area of valuable property. The meeting unanimously carried resolutions requesting the Council to take polls of tho ratepayers on the questions dealt with.
