KILLED BY A TRAM-CAR. AN AUCKLAND MISHAP. PRESS ASSOCIATTOV AUCKLAND, June 10. A terrible fatality occurred in the city to-night, tho victim being Harry Elder, about forty years old. He was a painter, and resided at Fi'eeman J s Bay. It is believed Elder was a pasengcr by the tram-car which ran over him, and that he got off at the corner of Victoria and Nelson streets, where the accident occurred. Ho was knocked down and dragged about twenty yards. When extricated—a work that took about fifteen minutes—tho body was terribly mutilated. A pathetic incident was that a son of tho victim, finite unconscious that the injured man Was .his father, assisted to extricate the dead body. A BABY KILLED. NAPIER, Juno 10. A fatal trap accident occurred at Petano this evening. A trap containing two married ladies named Marsh:.... ..nd tho infant son of one of them was proceeding through a cutting, when the horse attached to the trap commenced kicking, with the result that the vehicle was capsized, and tho occupants thrown out, Tho baby was killed instantaneously, his skull being fractured. McLean, and servant were returning homo the horses bolted, and commenced kicking. The road- being rough, the occupants were precipitated from the vehicle. The four-year-old son of George Price, of ICarapiro, settler, was burned to death through his clothes catching fire while the parents were absent milking. WANGANUI, Jnne 10., A trap accident occurred in: Victoria avenue this afternoon, resulting in 1 serious injury to an elderly settler. Mr Samuel Wilson, a resident of Mars Hill. A telegraph messenger named F. Yates,, fifteen years of age, while cycling down Lambton, Quay yesterday afternoon, was knocked down by a cart and received severe outs on the leg and forehead. Ho was taken to the hospital. Some timber fell on Walter Dredge, who -was working in tho Manawatu railway yard yesterday, and broke the small bone of one of his legs.
